¤ Space saving: Cutting out articles (I, a, an, the) and personal pronouns (my, mine, our)
can help you save space and maintain short and concise sentences.
BUILD YOUR RESUME
Ready, set, build! You’re ready to start crafting your resume content. Check out these helpful tips and
resources to help you develop impactful content.
RESUME CONTENT OVERVIEW
Take a moment to decide what sections you’d like to include on your resume. Explore some
common sections below and select the most relevant ones for the position you are applying for.
We love a good sample (just like Costco!)! Samples of sections, full resumes, and templates are
available in our guide’s appendices. We recommend always starting with the Heading and
Education sections, then add other sections as needed.
PAUSE AND REFLECT: What sections do you plan to include? Use this checklist to
help you organize your thoughts.

HEADING
Your heading should clearly communicate
your name and contact information (phone
number, location, email address).
We often get this question – ‘should I include a photo
on my resume?’. Overall, for resumes in the United
States, we suggest not including a photo.
Some students choose to include links to
professional profiles or portfolios (i.e. LinkedIn profile, online portfolio, or project
repository like GitHub). Pro-Tip: Be sure to customize your link address.
We recommend not providing information that employers have no legal right to (age, sex,
race, religion, marital-status, or sexual orientation). Questions? Schedule an appointment
with a career coach today!
