sales, business development, or executive positions, where negotiation skills are key to job
performance.
¤ Final Step in the Process: For some companies, salary negotiation can be seen as a final hurdle in
the hiring process. It’s not only about arriving at a fair compensation but also assessing how a
candidate navigates difficult conversations and advocates for themselves, especially in roles that
require negotiation as part of the job.
How will I know which philosophy my employer has? Good question! You can often find this information
during your company/organization research. In the State of Washington, salary ranges are now required and
will often give you insight moving forward. You can use online tools to gain a better understanding of salary
expectations for your desired position, remember, research is crucial for your success.
In the ASCC, we always recommend negotiating. If the employer is unable to offer you more, they will be
forthcoming with that information. If your salary request is researched and reasonable, a recruiter won’t judge
you for negotiating, they expect it!
In addition, remember to consider the benefit package (health insurance, retirement plans/contributions, PTOPaid Time Off, etc.) this can often account for much more than an increase in salary.
THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING
